‘Tis the season to be grateful, especially for those of us in recovery. From time to time, I like to bring you stories from Nashvillians who have found recovery. Here’s Vanessa M., a businesswoman and a mom – and a good friend – from the Donelson/Hermitage area: Vanessa has more than three years clean and sober.

VanessaFor most alcoholics/addicts, it’s fun and exciting until the consequences start piling up. With all self-worth and dignity diminished, I came to the harsh realization I was about to lose my children, job and anything I ever cared for if I didn’t stop drinking. All I could think was “How can I possibly live without alcohol and drugs?….. My life is officially over.”

Then, I stopped fighting and asked for help.

For me, recovery means getting my life back. Today, I’m able to have honest relationships with the ones I love, especially with a Higher Power that gives me strength on a daily basis. My children now have a mother that can support, laugh and love them. Every day, I can try and be the woman I was meant to be. Life has more purpose and meaning than I could’ve ever imaged.

Thank you, Vanessa, for sharing your story, and for being a part of my life.

Happy holidays!
