{"id":16,"date":"2013-11-27T00:02:19","date_gmt":"2013-11-27T00:02:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nashvillerecovers.org\/wordpress\/?p=16"},"modified":"2013-11-27T00:02:19","modified_gmt":"2013-11-27T00:02:19","slug":"gratitude-filled-thanksgiving-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nashvilleprevention.org\/nashville_recovers\/2013\/11\/27\/gratitude-filled-thanksgiving-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"Gratitude-filled Thanksgiving edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So I used to roll my eyes around Thanksgiving when teachers used to ask \u201cWhat are you thankful for?\u201d My first thought was: \u201cI\u2019m thankful I\u2019m getting a break from school and these inane, regurgitated holiday questions for a few days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wasn\u2019t I a charming kid?<\/p>\n<p>Recovery has shown me that, if nothing else, I\u2019m a happier person when I\u2019m considering all the awesome people and opportunities in my life. And so, I\u2019ve become one of those simpleton, inane teachers. And I\u2019ve asked my recovery friends \u2014 What are you grateful for?<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nashville.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Thanksgiving2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Thanksgiving2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nashville.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Thanksgiving2-300x256.png\" width=\"240\" height=\"205\" style=\"padding:5px;\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a>\u201cI\u2019m grateful that recovery taught me to truly number my days. One day at a time.\u201d \u2014 Shane S.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m grateful for a second chance at life, to be a better friend, daughter, sister\u2026 not many people get that. I\u2019m also thankful for the inner peace I feel, the true happiness that comes along with sobriety and doing the next right thing.\u201d \u2014 Wesley A.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am grateful for the Grace that God gives me on a daily basis. I am grateful for forgiveness of myself and others. I am grateful that I can have hope, even in the darkest situations because I believe that I am never alone and that God is always with me.\u201d \u2014 Jaime G.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThankful for the fact that I have a choice on whether to hit on a guy or not. (Seriously- that was a big deal in early sobriety.) I am thankful for restored relationships and the opportunity to be the shoulder that someone else might need to cry on.\u201d \u2014 Rachel S.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cI am grateful to be able to spend the holidays with loved ones (able to show up for family). I remember a day when I was in the hospital, drunk and crying that I will never be able to have children, that the doctors did not know what was wrong with me and my life was over.
