From time to time, I like to bring you stories from Nashvillians who have found recovery. Here\u2019s Vanessa M., a businesswoman and a mom\u00a0\u2013 and a good friend \u2013\u00a0from the Donelson\/Hermitage area: Vanessa has more than three years clean and sober.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nashville.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Vanessa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding: 5px;\" alt=\"Vanessa\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nashville.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Vanessa.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"268\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a>For most alcoholics\/addicts, it\u2019s fun and exciting until the consequences start piling up. With all self-worth and dignity diminished, I came to the harsh realization I was about to lose my children, job and anything I ever cared for if I didn\u2019t stop drinking. All I could think was \u201cHow can I possibly live without alcohol and drugs?\u2026.. My life is officially over.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Then, I stopped fighting and asked for help.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>For me, recovery means getting my life back. Today, I\u2019m able to have honest relationships with the ones I love, especially with a Higher Power that gives me strength on a daily basis. My children now have a mother that can support, laugh and love them. Every day, I can try and be the woman I was meant to be.
