Jennifer Charles

Chairperson, Assistant District Attorney – Davidson County District Attorney’s Office

Nashville native Jenny Charles is an attorney for the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office. She prosecutes various kinds of crimes ranging from homicides and home burglaries to arson and child abuse. Working in the criminal justice system provides her with an overall view of the problems that can occur in young peoples’ lives who are surrounded by drugs and alcohol and have no positive outlet.

She enjoys spending free time with her husband Derek and son Carson. Her writings on the topics of criminal justice have been featured in the Nashville Bar Journal and the Tennessean.

Sheila Calloway

Davidson County Juvenile Court Judge

Magistrate Sheila Calloway, a native of Louisville, KY, came to Nashville, Tennessee in 1987 to attend Vanderbilt University. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in 1991 and her Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1994 both from Vanderbilt University. After graduating from law school, Magistrate Calloway worked at the Metropolitan Public Defender’s Office in both the adult system as well as the juvenile system.

In January 2004, she was appointed by Judge Betty Adams Green to the position of Juvenile Court Magistrate. She also currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Vanderbilt University Law School where she teaches Trial Advocacy. She is a member of the Temple Church under the Pastorate of Darrell A. Drumwright. She is happily married to Paul Butler Calloway, Jr. and the proud mother of one son, Paul Calloway, III.

 

Jenn Garcia

Director of Youth Engagement, Oasis Center

Jenn has transformed the lives of hundreds of youth through substance abuse and teen pregnancy prevention, youth leadership development, and service learning for more than 16 years. Her current role is overseeing Oasis Center’s Middle School Teen Outreach Programs (TOP), a positive youth development prevention model that teaches life skills, increases healthy behaviors, and creates a sense of purpose in young people. In this data driven world and under her leadership, the youth served through the TOP program have reduced or delayed alcohol and drug use by 73%.

Jenn spear headed multiple city-wide youth initiatives that have engaged over 1000 teens in service learning; smoking prevention, and celebrations of diversity. Jenn serves as a consultant to schools and community based organizations seeking to increase youth leadership capacity. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including Nashville Prevention Partnership’s Prevention Employee of the Year, Planned Parenthood’s Family Life Educator of the Year, and Oasis Center’s Roy Hutton Vision and Action Award. Jenn is a graduate of the University of Kansas and has lived in Nashville since 1997.

 

Brenda Haywood

Nashville Metropolitan Council Member

Brenda Harris Haywood is a native of Nashville, Tennessee and represents the 3rd Council District in Nasvhill. She is a retired Metro Teacher and Administrator, currently teaching youth at the Nashville Criminal Justice Center. Founder of the Royal Heirs Youth Academy for at-risk youth and the Treasure Chest Radio Program.

Mrs. Haywood received her Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee State University, a Master’s from Vanderbilt University and a +45 from Trevecca Nazarene College.

She is an Associate Minister at St. John Missionary Church, Clarksville, Tennessee. Married 43 years, the proud mother of two adult children and seven grandchildren.

 

Thomas Hunter

Director of Community Relations for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office

One of Nashville’s own, Thomas E. Hunter, Sr. graduated from Whites Creek High School and received the Civitan Club A. D. Hancock – Walter Nipper Basketball Sportsmanship Award in 1990. Thomas received his B.S. Degree in Sociology from Illinois State University and TH.B in Theology from American Baptist College. He received his license to preach in 2003 and is an Associate Minister at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church.

Thomas played Professional Basketball in Lahti, Finland and currently serves as the Director of Community Relations for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

 

Thomas Riche

President of SlightEdge 360 Business Solutions

Thomas Riche Is a retired Air Force Officer with over 20 years military service. He spent most of his military career in the Human Resource and training fields.  Most recently he was the Deputy Commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Children’s Service under the Bredesen administration, and prior to that he was the Census office manager for Tennessee for Census 2000. He also worked for Nashville READ as the Director of Community Literacy Programs.

He holds a Bachelors degree in Sociology from Chaminade University, an MA in Human Resource Management from Pepperdine University, and an MBA from Webster University. Recently, Thomas started his own speaking, training, and coaching business and is the President of SlightEdge 360 Business Solutions. He is a certified Career and Professional development Coach, and is endorsed by Dan Miller to facilitate the “48 Days to the Work You Love” seminar. He is also an experienced DiSC facilitator, and is certified through the American Seminar Leaders Association. Thomas is currently the President of the Music City Toastmaster’s club and is a member of the Middle Tennessee SHRM and ASTD and the Tennessee National Speakers Association.

DeWayne Holman

MPA – Executive Director

Executive Director of the Nashville Prevention Partnership, DeWayne Holman is a 2002 Robert Wood Johnson Fellow in the Developing Leadership in Reducing Substance Abuse Program. Holman has also worked as a Community Organizer for the Neighborhood Resource Center and has coordinated a school-based prevention program. In 1997, he was appointed the Youth Engaged in Service (YES) Ambassador   for the state of Tennessee, where he encouraged young people to become leaders and resources in their community. Holman was awarded the     Minority Access to Research Careers Scholarship at Tennessee State University as well as the Graduate Minority Health Careers Institute Internship at Pennsylvania State University.

Holman graduated from Tennessee State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and was inducted into Psi Chi Honor Society for academic excellence. Holman went on to earn a Master of Public Administration from Tennessee State University and a Certificate for Public Health Planning and Administration. He was also inducted into the Phi Alpha National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Public Administration for academic excellence. He is married to Trisha and has two daughters, Marissa and Rachel.

Kirk Johnson

Peer Recovery Coordinator

Kirk_NPPwebsiteThe newest member of our team, Kirk Johnson, is Nashville Prevention Partnership’s Peer Recovery Coordinator. Kirk is a retired automobile executive. He has been in recovery from the disease of addiction since 2009. Through his active treatment with twelve step groups, Kirk is committed to helping others.

Before joining the NPP team, Kirk was the organization’s Volunteer of the Year Award winner for 2014. Kirk’s service work began at the Campus for Human Development, Room in the Inn, where he took 12 step meetings to residents of the program. He also devotes time each week to mentor a group of men through Fellowship Connection, which connects those going through recovery inside and outside of Metro Jail. He volunteers as a temporary sponsor for patients leaving Cumberland Heights Treatment Canter and is heavily involved with the 12 Step Program. He is a graduate of Father Ryan High School and studied at the University of Memphis.
